'River Symphony' is part of my Dreamscapes Series of encaustic originals. I created it using the ancient Greek technique of burning layers of hardened beeswax into a wooden substra te, using a live flame which permanently bonds each layer to the one beneath. The effect is dreamy and ethereal, with a soft glow that perfectly captures the magical moment when the sun disappears below the horizon, and the landscape softens into twilight.River Symphony shows two white-cheeked honeyeaters fluttering up from wild grasses, as the sun sets on the river at Brunswick Heads (near Byron Bay, Australia's most easterly point).
