"Armor Scratched Into Being" begins in absolute black, the kind of darkness a warrior might vanish into once the battle is over. Out of that void a torso takes shape: a dented breastplate, a crested helmet, one shoulder built from overlapping plates that catch and hold the light. It is not a portrait of a man. It is a portrait of what protection looks like once it has been tested.The armor does not arrive whole. One shoulder plate is gone, its place taken by the same dark that surrounds the figure, as if the void itself had claimed it. What remains reads in ridges and rivets, in the fold of metal over metal, each form lifted out of the black by a field of fine scratches rather than laid on top of it.There is a quiet symbolism in a suit of armor worn down to this state. It once meant strength, rank, the promise of survival. Here it means something closer to memory, the record of impact kept on the surface long after the fight itself is forgotten. Damage becomes the very thing that makes the figure visible.No paint. No print. No ink. The image is scratched into the surface of the acrylic glass, formed by controlled surface damage where the metal should shine and left untouched where the dark should hold. Nothing is added. Everything you see is what has been taken away.The image is always present, in daylight or in shadow. Light does not create it. It sharpens it, drawing the breastplate forward and letting the missing shoulder recede deeper into black. From across a room the figure reads as monumental, a single armored presence holding its ground in the dark.
