South Africa (SADF) Army Diver Advanced Proficiency Badge 3rd Pattern in Chrome worn by Recce Divers The Army Diver (1 Recce) badge was approved in 1973. 2 Clutch pins at the rear, intact. These regular size Army Diver badges were only issued to S.A. Army Recce Operators. No Navy Divers received these badges, because the objective of the Navy Diver was defensive (rescue/mine clearance) & support (maintenance & repair). The Recces objective was offensive (infiltration/sabotage) & reconnaissance (observation). Initially, this badge was officially proposed as a 1 RECCE DIVER badge, but was amended to ARMY DIVER badge. The South Africa (SADF) Army Diver Advanced Proficiency Badge 3rd Pattern in Chrome is a distinguished emblem symbolizing elite expertise within the South African Defence Force’s diving units. Crafted with meticulous detail, this vintage badge features a robust chrome finish that emphasizes its historical significance and durability. Originating from the era of the SADF, the 3rd pattern reflects the evolution of military diving qualifications, representing advanced training and proficiency in underwater operations. Collectors and military enthusiasts will appreciate the badge’s authenticity and connection to South Africa’s military heritage. This emblem not only marks technical skill but also commemorates the bravery and specialized capabilities of army divers serving in challenging and often perilous environments.
