ARMY FITNESS TEST PREPARATION PROGRAM Who It’s For The Army Fitness Test Preparation Program is designed for soldiers who want to improve their performance and be prepared to achieve their best possible score on the Army Fitness Test. Whether you’re preparing for an upcoming test, returning to training after time away, or looking to build a stronger foundation for Army physical readiness, this program provides a structured approach to developing the strength, endurance, and work capacity required to perform. The Why The AFT demands a combination of strength, power, aerobic endurance, anaerobic capacity, muscular endurance, and repeated-effort performance. The program is designed to develop each of these qualities while preparing the body for the specific demands of the test. Rather than relying on event practice alone, this program combines strength and conditioning methods to build the physical qualities that allow you to perform each event at a higher level. Description The Army Fitness Test Preparation Program is a 7-week, 6-day-per-week strength and conditioning program consisting of 42 total training sessions designed to prepare you for your best Army Fitness Test performance. The program combines traditional strength training, aerobic endurance, metabolic conditioning, and timed intervals to address the full range of energy system demands required by the test. Athletes will complete three strength-focused sessions and three conditioning sessions each week. Strength sessions incorporate traditional AFT movements such as the trap bar deadlift, hand-release push-ups, farmer’s carries, and plank variations. Conditioning sessions develop the aerobic and anaerobic capacities necessary to perform under the demands of the test, while exposing the athlete to familiar movements as well. Running sessions include built-in dynamic warm-ups, while weight room sessions provide two warm-up options to allow athletes to select the approach that best fits their needs and available time. A Cardio Conversion Chart is also included for athletes who are on profile, managing an injury, or returning to duty and are not yet ready to tolerate running volume. This allows conditioning to continue while reducing unnecessary impact and maintaining the intent of the training session.
