With some of our track cars on the original wheel studs that have seen numerous heat and tension/expansion cycles, we have also seen CRACKED and BROKEN wheel studs. Not only is the original hardware old, but the modern high-torque impact wrench is a killer on wheel studs. With hand-tightening, this isn't nearly an issue, but the grade of metal used on OEM studs just can't withstand years and years of abuse and fatigue.As a matter of safety, we do not hit the track with out changing our wheel studs as we have seen way too many fail with our own eyes.
