Although this work is not necessarily representative of Gertsch’s entire oeuvre, I immediately recognized its potential for my own interpretation. I found the idea of reversing the situation in the original painting particularly interesting and humorous – that is, depicting a fully clothed, visibly uncomfortable model and a naked artist. It was important to me that the model’s posture and facial expression clearly convey her discomfort, which in my opinion further enhances the absurdity of the scene.
