‘Lady of the Lake’ Acrylic on Canvas, 16-20” In this painting Leia references the 1947 photograph by Toni Frissell, Lady in the Water. The image depicts a woman in an almost bridal dress, floating in open water. The painting is in monochrome and is part of a diptych. With the image being amidst a body of work that was set in ‘Hollow Ponds’ of ‘Epping Forest’ it touches on the area’s seedier secrets, while also alluding to the areas notoriety for concealing bodies in its forests and lakes. The artist is keen to evoke many interpretations from her audience however, and feels that the piece can offer a calmness amidst chaos, and also that the floating figure from below the surface could offer an insight into 'what lies beneath' when all you can see is a 'calm exterior'.
