This piece was such a joy to draw, with its intricate detail and gnarly twisted tree. What began as a large scale pencil sketch, inspired by mycelium and the interconnectedness of all living things, became a place where two realms meet. Imbued with one of the oldest hermetic principals that exists: "As Above, So Below".The old tree roots deep down into the Earth, where a vast underground network of fungal threads connects all things. These mycelium down below mirror the cratered planets up in space. Stemming from the principle that everything is connected, from the macrocosm to the microcosm, the higher planes of existence to the lower planes, from the cosmic to the physical, the outer worlds to our own personal inner worlds. The original pencil drawing was then photographed by London photographer Dennis Pedersen, after which I coloured it digitally.
