Asa Tone’s Mutualkind brings Melati ESP, Tristan Arp and Kaazi together across Indonesia, Mexico City, Berlin and New York. Released on Music From Memory, the album builds its own language from chopped vocals, electronic hand percussion and shifting synth textures. Melati’s voice becomes part of the rhythm, with fragments triggered and reshaped as the three musicians trade ideas. Some pieces were captured in a single take; others took shape through a longer exchange of recordings. Balinese percussionist Putu Septa adds kendang to two tracks, alongside modular synthesis, FM tones and electronic drums. There’s plenty happening inside these arrangements, but the music leaves room for the sounds to move and breathe: an ambient LP with a strong sense of rhythm and shared improvisation.
