Customize the internal storage of the Aspen by adding a storage mod that matches your personal stationery addition. The five options include various zipper pouches, pen/pencil holders, and multiple sizes of pockets. The mods clip into the inside cover and easily flip open and closed. For the right-handed version of the Aspen, the mods clip into the left-hand cover when open. For the left-handed version of the Aspen, the mods clip into the right-hand cover when open. Mod 2: 4X Fountain Pens We designed the 4x fountain pen mod with the fountain pen enthusiast in mind. Each sleeve is sized to accommodate a large fountain pen (or other large pens you want to protect individually). Slide the entire pen into the sleeve to protect the clip, or leave the clip on the outside for easier access. The tapered bottom lets you decide how much tension will hold the pen in place, so even vintage pens can be safely secured with a gentle touch. Mod 3: Fountain + Zipper This mod is a mash-up of mods 1 and 2, giving you the best of both worlds. Keep two special pens protected but still have a catchall place for smaller items. Note that the zipper pocket doesn't extend behind the pens. When we tested that design, the contents of the zipper pocket made this mod too thick. This half-size zipper pocket still has plenty of room for some stationery, cartridges, vials of your favorite inks, or other small items. Mod 4: Slim Pens + Zipper This mod has a full-size zipper pouch on the back and sleeves for five smaller pens or markers (up to .5" in diameter) on the front. Mod 5: Slim Stationer The Slim Stationer is a Bullet Journaler's dream. On the front, it has slots for five small pens and a pocket for miscellaneous items at the bottom (notes, receipts, extra lead, erasers, etc.). The back has a slot for longer items like rulers to help with your spreads and two more pockets for other items. The inside of this mod is also a pocket to hold larger notes, stencils, or smaller pocket notebooks like a Field Notes pocket journal. Materials Open tab Ecuadorian Latigo Leather We’re big fans of promoting quality of life for animals throughout the supply chain so we source our leather from a place where virtually all cattle are free-range, grass-fed, and factory farms are nearly impossible to find. We worked directly with the tannery to craft the perfect leather for our products. They use a hybrid between top-grain and full-grain processing, removing just enough material to improve the look while retaining durability we can guarantee for life. Then they top that off with a hydrophobic treatment so you don't have to worry about a little rain or the occasional spill. From there the tannery finishes our leather two ways. The browns are a matte finish, designed to show marks and age very easily, quickly developing a classic aged-leather patina. But they can easily be cleaned and conditioned to buff out the wear marks. The idea here is that you can dial in how much age/character you want your piece to show based on how often you condition it - just like folks used to shine their shoes (or maybe you still do!). The black is a pebbled finish, we've found folks who choose black leather often prefer less of a “rustic character" look, so this one won't show wear as quickly as our browns and has a classic, polished look. Tex 70 Nylon Stitching Nylon thread has an excellent strength-to-size ratio, some stretch and flex capability, and high resistance to abrasion. These qualities make it ideal for leather goods with a lifetime guarantee. The thread can move and stretch with the leather while retaining its durability. Top Notch Hardware It's all in the details. Hardware is a common failure point, and failure is not really our thing. So we overbuild the hardware and cut no corners. We also keep our hardware inline with our minimalist geometric design approach. Bull Denim Lining No flimsy lining here. Our lining is a heavy yet soft canvas-like bull denim. It comes in three colors, black, black, and black. While lining can sometimes be a decorative touch, we prioritized its ability to do its job for years to come over trendy designs or colors.
