From the suite Vacances Forcées. Published in 1956 by Roland Dorgelès and dedicated to the memory of his friend Raoul Dufy who had died in 1953. This is one of only 12 copies on Ja pon nacré paper. Dorgelès chose 24 Dufy watercolours to accompany the text. They were reinterpreted as wood engravings by the master engraver Jacques Beltrand. During 2 years of intensive work, Beltrand engraved over 400 blocks, a separate block being required for every colour on each image. The finished work needed 140,000 passes through the press.
