Aubiose Hemp Horse Bedding – 20kg Aubiose is chopped hemp shiv — the woody core of the hemp stem — and it is the original hemp bedding rather than one of the many that followed it. The distinction that matters on a yard is that it is dust-extracted, not simply screened: plenty of beddings are described as low dust, and rather fewer have had the dust actually taken out of them. In use it behaves quite differently from straw or shavings. Liquid goes down into the lower layer rather than spreading across the surface, so the horse stands on a dry bed while the wet sits below, waiting to be dug out. Aubiose put consumption at about one 20kg bale a week once a bed is established, and the resulting heap is roughly half the volume of a straw one. Performance & Benefits Dust-extracted hemp shiv, a genuine option for horses with respiratory sensitivities. Draws liquid into the lower layer of the bed and keeps the standing surface dry. Controls ammonia better than an equivalent depth of straw or shavings. Composts down quickly and naturally with no additives, and can go to an organic waste facility. Produces around half the manure volume of a straw bed, on Aubiose's own figure. Soft and springy underfoot, so horses generally lie down readily on it. 100% natural hemp, GMO free, with nothing added. Suitable For Horses and ponies with respiratory sensitivities needing genuinely low-dust bedding. Horses that eat a straw bed — hemp shiv is woody stem, not forage. Stables where damp or ammonia is a recurring problem. Yards wanting to cut muck heap volume and removal costs. If you want the same bedding with a scent for a stuffy stable, Aubiose Eucalyptus 20kg is the same hemp with eucalyptus essential oil added. How to Use Aubiose give seven to eight bales to lay a bed in a standard 3.5m x 3.5m stall. After that, about one bale a week keeps it topped up. Skip out thoroughly every day — the wet sits below the surface, so lifting only what you can see leaves it in the bed. Lay it deeper than you would shavings when first converting, then reduce once you see how little it takes. Store bales off the ground and under cover. Hemp will draw damp out of a concrete floor before you ever use it. Specification 20kg bale of chopped hemp shiv, dust-extracted. 100% natural hemp, GMO free. Coverage: 7–8 bales to lay a 3.5m x 3.5m stall, then about one bale a week. Around half the manure volume of a straw bed. Also sold as a pallet of 24 bales, and by Aubiose in 3kg, 7kg and 10kg packs for smaller animals. Aubiose publish no absorbency multiple and no dust percentage, so no figure is quoted here despite such numbers appearing on some retail listings.
