Audiolab 8300A Integrated Amplifier w/Phono
Like new and complete 8300A which is not easy to find in the US these days. Standout Features Include:• 75 Watt Stereo Amplifier With Dual Mono Power Amp Section• Includes MM/MC Ph ono Stage & Balanced Line Level Inputs• Home Theatre Bypass, Two Sets Of Speaker Outs For Bi-Wiring• Contemporary Sleek Design With Useful OLED Display More from Audiolab:Completely redesigned from scratch, our new integrated amplifier, the 8300A is miles ahead of what was already an industry-leader. Higher power, an additional phono stage and new audiolab styling means the amplifier is more stylish and more versatile than ever. Most importantly its new, ultra-efficient circuitry and streamlined components create a listening experience which brings new definition to your favourite music.Brilliance evolvedThe 8300A’s circuit design delivers all-new sound quality. The soundstage it produces is deeper and broader, with greater space and separation within. Instrument and voices are better defined, their character is vividly portrayed. Dynamic range is greater and frequency response is further extended, with greater bass definition and treble that is both crisper and sweeter. In short, it delivers an open window on the music being played, as all great HiFi should, engaging the listener with natural, unforced energy that is fully reflective of the source materialVersatile High End Integrated AmplifierAt this amplifier’s heart is a powerful dual-mono amplifier delivering 75W per channel into eight ohms. CFB or ‘Complementary Feedback’ topology offers superior linearity and ensures excellent thermal stability. ACD or ‘Active Current Drive’ means current limiting is under microprocessor control, programmed to allow the amplifier to supply high currents into complex loads, on par with amplifiers that are bigger and more powerful on paper.Main Features & SpecificationsDesign: Integrated Stereo AmplifierOperating Features:Maintains absolute fidelity with the straightest possible signal pathSeparate Pre-Power sections for flexibility of operationDedicated high performance MC and MM Phono Input (selectable via the menu)Automatic equipment activation via 12V trigger input and outputThree display brightness available with on/off optionsAuto standby function with function on/off optionsCore Technology: Dual Mono Power Amp DesignDisplay: OLED 128x64 pixels 2.7" (69mm)Controls: Logarithmic Ladder Volume DesignFinish: Fine Textured Aluminium (Black / Silver)Standby Features:Yes12V Trigger:YesPhono: Moving Magnet (MM) & Moving Coil (MC) input optionsBalanced XLR Input: YesPreamplifier SectionInputs: CD, Video, Tuner, Aux 1, Aux 2, XLR (Balanced) & PhonoOutputs: 2 x RCAInput sensitivity (Phono RIAA): 50K // 100pFInput impedance (line inputs): 50K // 100pFInput impedance (phono inputs): 47K // 100pF (MM), 100R // 1.5nF (MC)Output voltage: 2.3V max. Capacitors are checked for telltale signs of predictive failure including bulging, shrunken wrappers, or physical leakage. We also inspect the PCBs for discoloration from resistors or transistors that may have been running hot. On vintage units we often spot check select capacitors for value and ESR.If the amplifier passes visual inspection, we move on to a controlled power on sequence using a Sencore safety analyzer to monitor current draw in real time. Once the amplifier is determined to be safe to operate, we connect it to full AC mains for function and power testing. We connect the speaker outputs of the amplifier to a Sencore PA81 Power Analyzer which acts as a dummy load, DC offset monitor, and oscilloscope interface. We start with a low level 1KHz test signal at the amplifier’s input and slowly increase its amplitude while monitoring the output on an oscilloscope for signs of noise, clipping, distortion, or improper channel balance. We continue increasing the signal level until the amplifier reaches clipping. At this point we take an output power measurement and compare it to the spec sheet of the amplifier to verify proper performance. If the device under test has both balanced and single ended inputs they are both tested at this time. We finish off the bench evaluation with a 1KHz square wave check and a 20Hz to 20KHz sine sweep to assess the amplifier’s frequency response characteristics. This battery of tests will usually reveal if the amplifier has any issues that need further attention. Before the device leaves the bench, we perform a listening test with actual music using a variety of preferred test tracks. Our benches are outfitted with familiar monitor speakers which help us identify inconsistencies that will not always show up on our test gear. The main things that we are listening for are hum or noise with no signal present, proper center image, clicks, pops, or any other obvious undesirable audio characteristics. If the unit passes all of these tests it is moved to our long term testing rig where we simulate real word operating conditions for 6-8 hours. This allows us to monitor the unit for signs of thermal runaway or intermittent issues that only crop up when the unit has fully come up to temperature.
