Augustiner-Bräu Lagerbier Hell – Munich Helles When people talk about "the gold standard" of German brewing, they are usually talking about Augustiner-Bräu. This is the definitive Munich Helles, a beer that prioritises balance and drinkability above all else. It pours a crystal-clear, pale straw gold with a pristine white head that lingers as you drink. On the nose, it is a masterclass in subtlety, offering aromas of fresh-baked bread, light honey, and a touch of floral noble hops. The palate is incredibly clean, featuring a soft, bready malt sweetness that is perfectly countered by a gentle, drying bitterness. It is medium-bodied with a crisp, refreshing effervescence that makes it arguably one of the most crushable beers on the planet. Whether you are in a Munich beer hall or a Brisbane backyard, Augustiner Hell is a timeless reminder that sometimes, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
