Aurantiol is the most common of the Schiff bases, a product resulting from the chemical reaction of methyl anthranilate with an aldehyde, in this case hydroxycitronellal. While there are many suppliers of Aurantiol (and you can even make it yourself by blending the two key materials in a ratio of roughly 56:44), not all Schiff bases are created equal. Poor quality versions are everywhere — the result of wrong proportions or incomplete (or worse still non-existent) dehydration of the final product. Because the process produces water as a side effect, you will often see inferior qualities which are cloudy and should be avoided. Our Aurantiol is perfectly dehydrated and has excellent clarity and a fine aroma. Aurantiol has the distinct scent of orange flowers and honey and it is in those contexts that it is most often used. Our Aurantiol is intensely yellow and very viscous (though easily pourable with a little heat). We offer it pure and in dilution due to its thickness.
