Golden form of the Korean Fir, unless grown in shade, where it will be more green than gold. Discovered by Lohbrunner nursery in British Columbia in the 1950's in a batch of seedli ngs. This tree grows more globose when young, but later develops a leader and becomes a broad upright tree. The shorter needles emerge a bright yellow in spring, but fade to a dull light yellow-green by winter. The purple cones, typical of the species, contrast nicely with the golden foliage. Grows 3 - 6 inches per year, resulting in a broad dwarf tree 3 ft tall x 2 ft. wide in 10 years. Hardy to zone 5. Best color results from growing in full sun, however if summer temperatures are high, some protection is recommended. Show more
