Description The Aurora Edge is a long range pixel receiver that works as an add-on accessory to the Aurora Core pixel controller for expansion. An Aurora Core is required in order to use the Aurora Edge. This purchase is only for the Aurora Edge Receiver - Board Only. No power supply, enclosure, or other assembly supplies are included. Dangles (separate purchase) are required in order to connect to smart pixel strings. This is a 5-24VDC system compatible with 12V RGB smart pixel strands (WS281x compatible) and devices, as well as any lights that operate between 5-24VDC. This long range receiver can run at a different voltage than the Aurora Core. Dumb RGB devices or standard LED / Incandescent lights cannot be plugged into the ports of this controller. The Aurora Edge can NOT be plugged into a USB-485 adapter or used with a Showtime Director. Pixels are NOT included with this assembled controller. Smart pixel strands must be purchased separately. Assembly required. A power supply is required to use this product, matching the voltage of the pixels you will use. An enclosure is required for outdoor use. A cat5 cable is required to connect to the Aurora Core. What kind of smart pixels can you control? In the world of smart pixels, each LED based RGB pixel is individually controlled and each can be any color of the rainbow. The Aurora Edge is designed to control any WS281x protocol pixels. What can the LOR Aurora Edge handle? Daisy chain capability to allow up to 6 Aurora Edge receivers to be used on each of the 2 Long Range Receiver Outputs on the Aurora Core (12 total receivers per Aurora Core) Supports any WS281X pixels Estimated 300 pixels per port at 30% brightness, 120 pixels per port at 100% brightness* 5-24VDC range voltage input with reverse polarity protection (Assembled package includes 12V system) Auto “place in line” feature senses the order or receiver chain to avoid having to set receiver addresses On board address dial for manual setting of receiver address High current capacity outputs (4A replaceable mini blade fuses) Test mode with multiple animations Advanced configuration options including start universe, start channel, null pixels, reverse pixels, RGB color order, substrings, brightness control and more, all set on the Aurora Core configuration page. Easy to use screw terminal connectors on all channel outputs Automatic protocol detection (Dumb, Smart V3 Falcon, Smart V4 Falcon, Genius) for incoming data Note: Pixels being driven from an Aurora Edge count toward the 10,000 total that the Aurora Core can handle. While you can use up to 12 total Aurora Edge receivers with an Aurora Core, you must make sure to not exceed the 10,000 pixel limit when adding up long range receiver pixels and pixels that are connected to the 16 pixel ports on the Aurora Core. *The above estimates are based on standard bullet pixels. These are not hard limits and it may be experienced that depending on the conditions of the installation, these values may be slightly higher or lower. Each output port on the Aurora Core is fused at 4A and can comfortably power 120 standard bullet pixels (.3W) at 100% brightness without power injection. More pixels per port are possible with power injection. Light-O-Rama is not responsible for implementations of power injection. How does it all fit together? The Light-O-Rama ShowTime Sequencing Suite works on your personal computer running Microsoft Windows and allows you to design your own shows. The ShowTime Sequencing Suite then runs your shows and sends the right commands at the right time to the various control channels. The ShowTime Sequencing Suite can even keep music and video synchronized to the controller commands. Speakers to play the music accompanying your show are attached to the computer sound card. Your computer communicates to the Aurora Core via an ethernet network. No USB 485 Adapter is used. Each Aurora Core in your show takes commands via ethernet from your computer and outputs pixel data on the 16 ports as well as DMX on the 2 DMX outputs. There are 2 long range receiver outputs ports for connecting Aurora Edge receivers Up to 6 Aurora Edge receivers (24 total receiver ports) can be daisy chained on each of the Aurora Core’s long range outputs. Each Aurora Edge needs its own power supply. All pixels connected to Aurora Edge receivers count toward the total capacity of 10,000 pixels that the Aurora Core can drive Total cable length from the Aurora Core to last Aurora Edge in the chain should be 200ft or less (depending on conditions, longer cable lengths may be possible) Aurora Edge receivers can be located close to props in your display to distribute the Aurora Core’s capability without having to use long pixel extensions Aurora or Pixielink? Should I Buy an Aurora Core (with Aurora Edges) or a Pixielink (with Pixies)? The Aurora Core is best for advanced users. The Light-O-Rama Aurora Core is an advanced smart pixel controller with dozens of user defined variables. This gives you the most versatility but can also make for a complicated configuration. The Aurora Edge is an add on expansion to the Aurora Core. These controllers are best for users that have a good understanding of data networking. The Pixie16 (and Pixie8, Pixie4, or Pixie2) is designed to be simpler-to-use smart RGB controller system, but you can tap into the advanced capabilities and faster speeds with a Pixielink adapter. The Pixie series alone (no Pixielink) is a better choice if you don't need the advanced capabilities of an Aurora Core. If you already own Pixies and want to keep using your controllers, the Pixie controller series and a Pixielink is a great choice.
