Product Description In order to create a new sustainable value, Mr. Suginaka, an urushi (Japanese lacquer) Meister, repaired and upcycled this vessel using Kintsugi, a unique Japanese ware repair method. This vessel was intricately cracked and required a high level of skill to join.Although this piece had previously been joined with blue color urushi, he rejoined it with pure gold.For this piece, we applied a Kintsugi as simple as possible to match the original appearance of the vessel, as in traditional Kintsugi pieces. This is Shigaraki ware, which was produced in Shiga Prefecture, next to Kyoto. Shigaraki ware is a famous tea utensil for the tea ceremony. Shigaraki ware is characterized by its unique warmth. The artist and production date are unknown.This vessel was broken in the store during an earthquake and supposed to be discarded. To avoid wasting the diligent efforts their craftsmen put into handmaking each piece, we decided to revive them as new Kintsugi pieces.
