While many adventurous watch manufacturers in the 1960s and 1970s were challenging the status quo in the world of horology with proprietary case designs or advanced movement constructions, Universal Genève was producing interesting dial designs to attract their customers. The example you see here may appear to be nothing more than a simple, time-only dress watch at first glance. Some examples of this reference are branded as a "Polerouter Compact" on the dial and some are not. However, upon closer inspection, the case diameter case wears wrist-huggingly comfortably at 8.75mm (remember, this is an automatic!). The hands and applied hour markers are simple, showing restraint that allows the beautiful silver dial with sunburst finish radiating from the center outwards toward the periphery to truly sing. The case is very strong with light scratches. The case is unpolished in our view. The lugs are in strong condition. The caseback has a few scratches from previous opening attempts but the numbers are clearly visible. There are some marks on the rear side of the lugs from strap changes over the years. The dial is in good condition and has developed a fine patina throughout. The edge of the dial shows some wear and the dial has a few scratches throughout. The lume on the dial and hands has developed patina and aged to an overall dark tone. The hands and hour markers have some oxidation. The crystal has light scratches.
