A single maple leaf, half-crimson, half-gold, hovers above a cobalt stream. Earle’s *Autumn* begins here, in the quiet fracture of light on water. The leaf casts a shadow that doub les as a branch, its veins picked out in ochre crosshatching. Behind it, a stand of birches rises in pale columns, their bark stippled with charcoal. The stream narrows to a vanishing point where cobalt bleeds into slate, and the whole scene is framed by a border of russet dots—like windblown seeds.
