Time, however, marches onward and a decade is a long time in the life of an engineering company. It was decided to lift the bar higher still – to apply the accumulated knowledge of a decade of development and lessons learned. The resulting turntable is now available…the Acutus Reference. The Reference provides not just a subjective but an immediately obvious lowering of the noise floor; extension of both bass and treble responses and a significant dynamic improvement. What are the actual differences between the Acutus and the Acutus Reference? The first, and perhaps the most influential, is the power supply. A full 1kVA is on tap. This supply, itself developed over three years is the most stable, linear supply we’ve ever experienced. The Advanced DSP control of the motor power is finely adjustable almost completely eliminating micro-vibrations from the motor unit. The motor suspension has been fine-tuned and a new twin belt drive system has been employed to aid grip and control. A detailed understanding of the metallurgic requirements of moving components has resulted in the refinement of the bearing system to self-lubricate and spin freely, but eliminate unwanted movement. The Acutus Reference is a rare jewel of precision engineering. The age old adage of ‘getting what you pay for’ is no more evident than in this superlative turntable.
