The Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck was the first jet fighter designed and built entirely in Canada. Introduced in 1952 during the height of the Cold War, it holds the unique distinction of being the only Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production and full operational service. It was primarily deployed as an all-weather interceptor to defend North American and NATO airspace against Soviet bomber threats. A total of 692 Avro CF-100 Canuck aircraft were built. Produced by Avro Canada between 1950 and 1958, it holds the distinction of being the first and only entirely Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production.
