A pretty and characterful early twentieth century Afshar rug from the Kerman area in southeast Persia. Pale blue field with large centre terracotta medallion; inner dark blue medal lion with central terracotta hooked medallion; various filler ornaments of medallions, rosettes, flowerheads and vases. Narrow ivory main border of linked hooked vase-type motifs within terracotta and pale blue running dog guards. Soft palette.
