About This Sometimes known as 'piquín', the Pequin pepper is a wild chili native to southern Mexico. Its small peppers seldom exceed one inch in length, but pack a fiesty punch, averaging around 30,000-60,000 Scoville, or several times the heat of a jalapeno. The small chilis, known as chili pequin, are frequently dried and used for seasoning, but may also be used fresh in salsa.
