The Baba Water Wheelhouse was originally built in 1918 with the funding of local volunteers to help power the local mountain town. Eventually as technology advanced and the water wheelhouses were becoming no longer needed, in 1961, Baba Tsuguo bought the entire site to what is now Baba Water Wheelhouse. Currently the second generation Takeshi Baba and his wife work together to create natural incense using 0 electricity during production, procuring materials from the local mountain and using the water wheel for energy.
