Back Draft Daylily Not for the faint of heart! Brilliant orange blooms with a vivid red eyezone are a huge 6″ and grow sturdy on scapes around 27″ tall in our East Tennessee garden. Everyone wants to know what these are and what they’re called. They can—and will (read the reviews!)— stop traffic! Back Draft is a prolific bloomer so get ready for a bloom show! Speaking of blooms… they are big and bold and simply gorgeous— especially when planted en masse. We also love them when paired with purple or lavender daylilies or you can plant it with other red daylilies to crank that heat up even higher! A mid-to late season daylily, we usually see Back Draft around mid June to early July in our East Tennessee garden. If you are to the north of us, you’ll see them a bit later. If you are to our south, you’ll see them a couple of weeks before we do. Back Draft is a dormant daylily which means it grows best in planting zones that get a sustained cold period in the winter.
