Bacopa monnieri is a hardy stem plant with soft, rounded green leaves on upright stems. It sits well in the midground and background, where its vertical growth adds a fresh, lush green backdrop. This is an easy, adaptable plant that suits new hobbyists and low-tech tanks as readily as high-tech aquascapes. Give it medium light for compact growth, as dimmer light tends to stretch the internodes. CO2 is not required, though it speeds growth and brings out fuller colour. Trim from the top and replant the cuttings to build denser clusters over time. It is just as happy grown in a paludarium or terrarium as it is fully submerged, and it will take up nutrients from both the substrate and the water column. It grows across a wide range and does best at 20 to 28C, pH 6.5 to 7.5.Care at a glance Placement: Midground to background Lighting: Medium CO2: Low, not required Growth rate: Moderate Difficulty: Beginner Colour: Green Every plant is harvested fresh and algae free. The conversion to submerged growth begins in our grow-out tanks, so the adjustment is already underway and success is maximised once it settles into your aquarium.Submerged plants have already adapted to life fully underwater and are ready for direct placement in the aquarium. Emersed plants were grown with their foliage above the waterline and transition to their submerged form once planted, which makes them a good fit for new setups and hybrid tanks.
