“Bakery Box” 2023by SHEZ (Eric Sheslow) Los Angeles, California, USADigital Painting “Bakery Box” is a brand new entry in the Delicatessen Series of artworks by Los Angeles-based artist, SHEZ. He depicts a classic pink bakery box wrapped in baker’s twine, and emblazoned with a collage of images sourced from SHEZ’ personal collection of lead printing blocks dating from the 1920s through the 1950s. Print shops once used such blocks to decorate newspaper advertisements, greeting cards, promotional matchbooks, and restaurant menus. Many of the images seen on “Bakery Box” came from blocks which were badly degraded. SHEZ lovingly restored and reimagined the images using his signature twist on the clear line style of illustration. “Bakery Box” combines SHEZ’ love of classic cartoons, advertising art, and restoration of forgotten things.
