Turned from plum wood, with warm tonal variation ranging from golden brown to deep chestnut. The surface shows pronounced natural cracking and subtle movement in the grain, reveali ng the density and fine texture of the wood. A darker vein runs through one side, contrasting with lighter sapwood and adding definition to the form. The piece has a smooth, waxed finish that enhances its natural sheen while preserving visible signs of age and growth. These sculptural wooden spheres are sourced in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the far north-east of Italy, close to the Slovenian border. Each one is hand-turned from storm-fallen wood — apple, plum, elm — gathered from the surrounding forests. The maker, who prefers to remain anonymous, works slowly and intuitively, allowing the natural character of each piece of salvaged wood to guide the final form.
