They are slender with a slightly flattened body and display subtle barring or mottling, usually olive to pale brown, allowing them to blend effortlessly with the riverbed. They pair well with other gentle, bottom-dwelling South American species that appreciate similar flow and water quality but avoid slow-moving or aggressive tankmates. Breeding in captivity is not commonly documented but may be possible in river-style setups with shaded, rocky areas.
