The original bud wood was sourced from the legendary Grace Family Vineyard, connecting Barbour's genetic material to one of the most storied Cabernet programs in California. Winemaker Celia Welch handcrafts each vintage from sustainably grown grapes, with yields restricted to just one to two tons per acre, resulting in deeply concentrated fruit. The 2015 vintage, widely regarded as one of Napa Valley's strongest recent years, allowed this low-yield approach to shine with exceptional ripeness and structure.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with fully ripe blue and black-toned fruits—cassis and boysenberry lead, followed by darker notes of graphite and a subtle herbal edge. There is an underlying earthiness that adds dimension as the wine opens in the glass.Taste: On the palate, rich blackberry jam and cassis dominate the entry, broadening into melted dark chocolate and baking spice through the mid-palate. The texture is superbly creamy, with medium-weight tannins providing structure without aggression. A thread of freshness keeps the concentration in balance, and herbal and earthy notes emerge as the wine develops.Finish: The finish is long and layered, with dark fruit and chocolate lingering alongside fine-grained tannins. Graphite and a subtle minerality carry through, giving the wine a persistent and satisfying close. How to Drink Barbour CabernetThis is a wine built for the glass—serve it at around 62–65°F after decanting for 45 minutes to an hour, which allows the tannins to soften and the aromatic complexity to fully unfold. If you prefer cocktails or wine-based mixed drinks, the Barbour's intensity and structure work well in a Cabernet Reduction Sangria with dark stone fruits and a cinnamon stick, a New York Sour where a float of this wine adds concentrated berry depth over bourbon, or a Kalimotxo riff if you want a casual, bold pairing with cola and citrus.Best For Cellaring for a special anniversary or milestone five to ten years out Gifting a serious Napa Valley collector who values small-production estate wines Pairing with a prime steak dinner or holiday roast Adding a standout bottle to a vertical tasting of 2015 Napa Cabernets Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Barbour Cabernet taste like?
