Have you ever had those days where you feel like you’re holding all your tension in your face? Your jaw is tight, forehead feels tense and somehow you look a little more tired than you actually feel… Because same! And this is where I love a good facial massage! The Bare Roots Gua Sha Tool is a beautiful and simple way to bring a little facial massage into your skincare routine. The smooth natural stone glides over the skin while the different edges and curves allow you to work around the contours of your face, jaw, neck and also your decolletage. Used with a facial oil or another product that gives your skin plenty of slip, gua sha can be a lovely way to massage the face, release some of that built up tension and leave your skin looking fresh again. And a little MKS honesty:Because you know I can’t help myself… honesty and transparency all the way! Gua Sha isn’t going to permanently sculpt your face or magically transform your skin overnight… But what I do love about it is the massage. It can help to temporarily reduce the appearance of puffiness and encourage circulation, bringing fresh nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells. And perhaps most importantly, it gives you a few minutes to slow down and actually pay attention to your skin, notice how your face feels and help you de stress. To be honest (again!)… that is sometimes what is the most beneficial. Now you absolutely can do a facial massage with your hands! But I love the experience and the ritual using a gua sha stone gives you. It also helps to encourage you to slow down and be really intentional with the massage as you work your way through the steps. But which stone should you choose?!It is available in 3 stone options and as to which one you choose, it really is personal preference. You don’t necessarily need to choose one based on claims about ‘energy’ (however you absolutely can!) or even the skincare benefits of the stone. Whichever you choose, the facial massage matters the most. So I think you may as well go with the one you love looking at or feel drawn to. Because actually using it is what will help your skin the most, rather than it being another thing at the back of your skincare drawer. 🩷 Rose Quartz: A classic choice with its beautiful soft pink colouring. If you’re drawn to pretty, feminine aesthetic of Rose Quartz, you really can’t go wrong. This is also the original Bare Roots Gua Sha stone as well! So important to note that the packaging is slightly different and the stone is a slightly different shape as well. 🤎 Tiger’s Eye: With it’s beautiful golden-brown and dark natural markings, Tiger’s Eye has a slightly more earthy feel and is perfect if you love warmer, richer tones. 💙 Blue Sodalite: A gorgeous blue and white naturally patterned stone. Every piece is unique, making this a lovely choice if you prefer something a little different. A little pro tip:It’s important not to dig the gua sha into your skin. And more pressure doesn’t mean better results. Think gentle and gliding, rather than scraping or trying to force the tool through the skin. We don’t want to bruise the skin. Your gua sha should feel relaxing, not painful. I recommend to make sure there is enough slip between your stone and your skin as it is stone after all. I personally love facial oils for this, but you can use another suitable skincare product that allows the tool to glide without dragging.
