Its body shape and protective casing is influenced by the design of traditional fisherman’s lantern, often called the onion lamp. These lanterns served as fishermen’s primary source of light, and aided the crew in staying the course through even the most tumultuous of elements. Offering another source of inspiration for its body shape and directly influencing the inclusion of the carabineer top is the traditional coal miners’ lamp. Anchored throughout mining tunnels, these lanterns served as miners’ guardians as they worked through dangerous environments. A nod to both designs, enhanced by Barebones’ signature beauty and durability principles, has shed a new beam on outdoor and exploration lighting. Even as a young boy who had just learned to ride, he’d set out at dawn to avoid the heat of the day and drive cattle down the path. At that hour, the cattle moved slow as cattle do. The Chuck Wagons would leave camp at the same time and set up where they estimated the drivers would stop for the day. At the end of the drive, all hot and dirty and bone-weary, Robert and his companions would sit down for a meal that tasted like heaven—a meal cooked in well seasoned cast iron.
