Barley Straw Extract works as an algae preventative. Barley Straw Extract slows the growth of algae cells naturally without affecting higher plants, fish, frogs, snails, turtles, pets, humans, or waterfowl. Barley straw extract is non-toxic, inexpensive, long-lasting, low maintenance, beneficial, and has no water use restrictions. Barley Straw Extract works best by applying before algae start growing. However, when the water is already pea green, and algae mats are floating on your pond, you must first use an algaecide product to eliminate the existing algae, then apply Barley Extract treatments to avoid regrowing.
