Barn swallows are beautiful areal acrobats and great at insect patrol! Give them a head start with this pre-made swallow nest. Formerly barn swallows used to nest in caves, but in modern times they build their cup-shaped mud nests almost exclusively on human-made structures. If you have a suitable outbuilding like a barn or garage, leaving a door or window open can encourage barn swallows to build a nest inside. Place this nest on a beam or wall, with the top of the nest 3.1" underneath ceiling. Swallows prefer to nest against a white background with several pairs of swallows nesting in close proximity, so it is advisable to hang a couple of nests close to each other. Materials Used: Concrete, plywood Note: Make sure you put up any nesting structures well before breeding season (which typically starts in May in North America) to give the birds time to find and scout out your nest options.
