Aldo Conterno has its history deeply engraved with Piedmont's North-Eastern Italian wine-producing region. It is in the heart of Barolo that Giovanni Conterno established the Estate, and the family has grown from there. With the idea of pursuing quality wine production, Giovanni Conterno produced his first 'Reserva' wine during the 1920s. Following the success of this new release, Giacomo walked on his father's path until 1961, when his two sons, Aldo and Giovanni, took over the management of the Estate. Previously, Aldo went first to California to establish a winery; however, the project didn't work as planned, so he returned to his hometown in Monforte d'Alba and created his label, Poderi Aldo Conterno with the purchase of the 'Favot' estate in 1969. Today, Aldo's sons have taken the name to the next level, owning 25 hectares of vineyards within Monfore d'Alba in the hamlet of Bussia. 'Cicala' is a vineyard planted to Michet and Lampia Nebbiolo varieties with vines averaging 45 years of age making this plot one of the Estate's oldest. The fruits are hand harvested, fermented in stainless-steel tanks and left on skins for 30 days to extract the typical tannins of Nebbiolo. The wine is then aged in barrels prior bottling.
