BASF LH EXTRA I - 1985 - US / EU / BR Very well made, and as good as any contemporary Type I tape. BASF provided bulk tape to many duplicators at the time this cassette was in production, so you can be assured of the quality. Note 1: 60 Mins: Made in Germany. Small Window: This cassette has a very unusual pattern on its black shells, see picture provided. Wrapper may have a small rip or two, not enough to bother anyone (repaired). These have the "Made in Germany" letters on the back.Note 1A: 90 Mins: Made in the USA. B-grade. Small Window: Has one large rip (not repaired) and it feels like the case may have a crack where the rip is, but it's a bit hard to tell.Note 2: 60 Mins: Made in Brazil. Large Window: Lightly scuffed wrappers.Note 3: 90 Mins: Made in France. Small Window: GOLD. The wrapper is perfect. Gold bars and "BASF" letters on the window. Only 1 available.Note 4: 90 Mins: Made in France. Small Window: The wrappers are impeccable.Note 5: 90 Mins: Made in France. Large Window. Wrappers have small blemishes. There are two different UPC codes: 4.009993006729 and 0.2835754030.7 . The tapes are 100% identical, so make your choice and send me an email requesting which one you want. For more information about these different UPC codes applied on the very same tape, go to the end of this page (*). About BASF: Founded in 1865, BASF became one of the true architects of cassette technology. Their deep expertise in magnetic chemistry shaped everything from early ferric formulations to the reference‑grade chromium dioxide tapes that defined real Type II performance. BASF shells were engineered with precision, their oxide coatings were remarkably consistent, and their true‑chrome behaviour remains instantly recognizable to anyone who’s ever dialed in a deck properly.Even after the BASF name left consumer media, their formulations lived on through EMTEC and later Recording The Masters, keeping the BASF lineage active in modern tape production. For collectors and recording enthusiasts, BASF’s influence is still very much alive, a technical legacy that continues to matter every time one of their tapes hits the heads. BASF LH EXTRA I - 1985 - US - Made in France, Brazil, or Germany.(*) Same Tape, different UPC codes: EU (Germany, France)Supposedly, the one ending with "006729" on its UPC code, would have been made in Germany (See 45spaces.com), but this single one still available here, shows as having been manufactured in France. It is maybe a transitional piece, which possibly makes it rather rare. What does transitional mean, and in particular, in this case? There are many cases of transitional pieces between many of the manufactured cassette runs in every brand. In this case, as with probably all, there is no actual documentation to prove anything. Having said that, it appears these tapes were being made in Germany at first, then their production transitioned into being manufactured in France. BASF clearly took its wrappers from Germany with the original UPC code, to be applied in France. Eventually when they ran out, they adopted the new wrapper with a new UPC code ending in "54030.7"
