Due to the ability to induce strikes the Bass Vampire holds a strong following in Bass fishing circles. What’s less commonly known and beyond my understanding, is why it seems to b e effective on a wide range of other species. To date it’s caught trout, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Saratoga, Bonefish, Snook, Tarpon, Trevally, Giant herring and many more. I must admit I’m curious to see what the flats fishermen of central and north Queensland come up with. Mainly because until now only a few fly fishermen that I know of have fished the Vampire for species other than Bass. Each fly is tied on Gamakatsu SL12S hooks and has been tied as if I was to fish it. The fluorescent chartreuse eyes are hand painted with baked on enamel. Hours upon hours of experimentation have been invested in this simple fly. In general terms an effective retrieve is two to four short, sharp strips punctuated with a pause of varying lengths, depending on fish activity. Hold on, this fly has a reputation for surprise.
