The game adheres to Chinese Chess rules so while the board is similar to European chess, pieces are placed along line intersections instead of in squares.The goal is still to capture the opposing king, still a potent offensive weapon. However, in Battle Chess II: Chinese Chess, a pair of advisors protects the king and to the side of each "vizier," is an elephant. Knights and rooks are similar to their European chess counterparts.
