The BCA ECT Cord is a 2-meter-long cord used for conducting Extended Column Tests (ECT) in snow stability assessments, essential for avalanche safety in backcountry environments. It has knots spaced every 25 cm (10 inches) along its length, which help in creating consistent snow column sections. At its center, it features two swaged aluminum teeth designed to cut cleanly through snow and crust layers during testing. The cord also has handles at each end that provide a secure grip, making it easier to saw back and forth through the snow column during the test. This tool is typically included in BCA Snow Study Kits and is valued for its precision and durability, offering a straightforward and reliable way to gather critical snowpack data for safer decision-making in mountain terrain. Key Features: 2-meter length suitable for extended column tests. Knots every 25 cm ensure consistent snow column sections. Two swaged aluminum teeth cut through snow and crust layers effectively. Handles on each end provide comfortable and controlled sawing. Durable and compact for easy backcountry transport and use. This cord is widely used by backcountry skiers, snowboarders, and avalanche professionals for assessing snowpack stability and making informed safety decisions.
