Four years after Maison Fauna launched with an eclectic double-LP compilation, label cofounder Randall Self takes the reigns. The first release after a brief hiatus is a twelve track VA nearly two years in the making. It includes international rising talents, tastemakers, and professional ravers across two records. The release is a full spectrum of techno ranging from industrial, to left field, to groovy hypnotic — with several stops in between. Tracks from New York club stalwarts like Merge resident, Ne/Re/A, and Nowadays usual suspect, Viiaan, pair suspiciously well with Fabric residents, Tapefeed, and Voitax-label co-founder/Tresor-regular, Paàl, in a space that evokes a trip through a Brooklyn warehouse party from sundown to sunrise. Not to be outdone, budding talents, Aderal, Marteka Fair, Matthew Cha, Willem Wolfe, and Tommy Value flex why they have quickly become names to watch, touting recent bookings at Flash, Public Records, The Great Beyond, and more. VA curator, Randall Self, contributes his own playful psychedelic hard groove track while Newcomers DJ LÜGE (German) and duo Paska (North Carolina) round out the compilation with a pair of tunes that explore industrial and peak time driving techno, respectively. “This compilation is really special to me,” says Randall Self. “I’ve never put together a record like this where I’ve actually partied with every single artist for at least a full night. And I mean seeing the sun come up kind of nights out. I know that they know how to party — several run their own nights and labels. They’re all highly opinionated, and very selective about what they subject their ears to. I’ve also booked almost all of them for parties or festivals at one point or another or had them play at my house, so that’s really special. Putting this together has changed the way I’ve wanted to run the label. Expect a more personal curation like this going forward, focusing on hardware producers, live acts, and lots and lots of vinyl.”
