Beaker tongs are the safe way to lift a hot beaker off a hot plate, out of a water bath, or away from a burner without setting it down first. These are nickel plated over a quarter inch steel rod, so they stay rigid under load and resist corrosion from splashes and steam. The jaws are rubber coated, and that matters more than it sounds. Bare metal tongs slip on wet borosilicate and they concentrate pressure on one point of the wall, which is how beakers crack.
