This Tepary Bean mix represents different types, including Blue Speckled, Black Tepary, White Tepary, Sacaton, Local Pueblo varieties, many of which were originally from Native See d Search. Contributions came from 4 growers across the US. Some Tepary beans in this mix were grown with no inputs in 100+ degree August weather in West Texas, meaning they have adaptive genetics for extreme heat & drought conditions. Generally Tepary beans (Phaseolus acutifolius) are considered a more drought tolerant species than Common Beans (P. vulgaris) & Runner Bean (P. coccineus). All 3 of these species belong to the same subgenus Vulgaris, meaning with some effort they can all hybridize with each other to form an interspecies landrace -- super useful for advanced breeders seeking additional diversity outside the Tepary Bean Species.
