Red bearberry is a hardy small shrub that forms a dense mat capable of outcompeting other species when sited correctly. Offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, this pl ant is ready for installation throughout the growing season. Though slow-growing initially, it provides long-term stability and ground cover in difficult sites where other plants struggle. Arctostaphylos uva-ursi features semi-evergreen leaves that change color with the seasons. Small flowers give way to red berries that persist into winter, serving as valuable forage for birds and mammals while the plant itself remains deer resistant. Also known by its Algonquin name kinnikinnick, it supports biodiversity as a larval host for hoary elfin and brown elfin caterpillars.
