The Iris genus draws its name from the Greek goddess of the rainbow, though 'All Night Long' occupies the most dramatic, dark corner of that color wheel. This Tall Bearded variety—named for the fuzzy tufts on its lower petals—stands as a multi-award-winning centerpiece that reaches heights of up to 31 inches. Flowering in the mid-to-late season, each plant sends up several branched stalks capable of supporting up to seven buds, resulting in a dense display of intensely ruffled, deep purple and near-black blossoms. In the landscape, these perennials are prized for their durability and natural resistance to deer and other garden critters. To ensure success, plant the horizontal rhizomes in a location that receives full sun and offers sharp drainage.
