Beatmaking 101 @ Miyagi EducationAutumn 01 Session A Beatmaking 101 is our beginner-level entry into music production, sampling, and beat construction. This 5-week course is designed for students who have always wanted to make beats but did not know where to start. Using simple, accessible tools, students will learn how to build rhythm, chop samples, create loops, arrange ideas, and begin developing their own production workflow. No studio setup is required—just a pair of headphones and a phone or tablet. Whether you’re completely new to production or trying to organize your ideas into a stronger foundation, this course gives you practical skills, guided practice, and a supportive community to grow with. Autumn 01 Session A Weekly Schedule Beatmaking 101 Schedule: (August 27th - October 4th)[In-Person Day] Sundays 10am-12pm[Virtual Day] Thursdays 6-7pm What You’ll Learn Over 5 weeks, you’ll build a true foundation in: Music production fundamentals Counting bars, tempo, and basic song structure Drum programming and rhythm building Sampling, chopping, and loop creation Using Koala Sampler as a mobile production tool Using BandLab to arrange, save, and develop ideas Basic effects, texture, and sound shaping Turning short ideas into fuller beat sketches Listening like a producer and developing your taste By the end, you’ll have the core skills to begin your beatmaking journey with confidence. Course Format Length: 5 weeks / 10 classes Schedule: One in-person class + one virtual class each week Gear Needed: Headphones and a phone or tablet Apps Used: Koala Sampler + BandLab Cohort Size: Small, intimate groups for focused instruction and feedback Instructor: Led by a working producer / music professional Graduation: Students will prepare a final beat to share and also present their creation process. A 'Beat CD' for the session will also be produced as part of graduation. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to leave with a real starting point: a workflow, a few ideas, and the confidence to keep creating.
