Bebe Neuwirth, 1999, Manhattan NY. You know, there was something about Bebe. She wasn’t like a sex symbol kind of actress, but there’s something about her that was really...I don’t know...flirtatious or something. We were shooting in my studio, in Hell’s Kitchen, and at the time the neighborhood was a little rough. There was this diner down at the corner - 10th Avenue and 37th Street - and we just walked in. I don’t even think I asked the owner if I could take pictures. She sat at the counter on the last stool, and started giving me this look, and you could just barely see the top of her stocking. When I saw that, I knew this was going to be the shot. It took something that really could have been a kind of banal image, and gave it a little bit more - that little hint of leg, that little hint of stocking - it made it different, made it special.
