Becoming Led Zeppelin is a 2025 documentary film directed by Bernard MacMahon and written by MacMahon and Allison McGourty, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. It traces the band's origin story from the childhoods of Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and John Bonham in post-war Britain, through their respective early careers in the thriving London session and club scene of the 1960s, to their formation in the summer of 1968 and their meteoric rise throughout 1969, culminating in the moment they became the number one band in the world in 1970.What distinguishes the film from most rock documentaries is the intimacy and depth of access MacMahon was granted. The surviving members — Page, Plant, and Jones — give new on-camera interviews, while previously private audio recordings of John Bonham, kept undisclosed for decades, are heard for the first time. The film is powered by never-before-seen archival footage and performances, remastered to a standard befitting its IMAX presentation, and full songs play throughout in a way that gives it the feel of a concert film as much as a biography.
