Artist Statement I have fond memories of my grandmother teasing me by examining my fingernails and exclaiming, “What do you have, potatoes growing in there?!” The nighttime ritual of bathing, snuggling and assessing fingernail cleanliness continues throughout the ages. This scene is proper to the early 1950’s. The girl holds her yarn haired cloth doll and diminutive Log Cabin patterned quilt. Her mother wears a casual strawberry motif smock over her red housedress that was probably a former best dress of several years earlier. The stylized, floral wallpaper resonates the colorful modern art of the post war period.
