This stunning large poster, showing David Hockney's design for the Bedlam scene in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, was created in 1982 for the San Francisco Opera Summer Festival Season. Hockney's 1975 designs for The Rake's Progress became some of the most important theatre design of the twentieth century - thrilling and immersive. This poster gives you a glimpse of the magic created on stage. The libretto was written by W.H. Auden and Chester Kallman. Hockney celebrates their brilliance, placing their words centre stage for this final scene in Bedlam, an institution for the poor and insane: 'Leave all love and hope behind / Out of sight is out of mind.'
